Curricular Extra Duty Job Descriptors

 

FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL AND STATE CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK AND A LETTER, PROVIDED BY THE INDIVIDUAL, FROM THE CABINET FOR HEALTH AND FAMILY SERVICES STATING THE EMPLOYEE IS CLEAR TO HIRE BASED ON NO FINDINGS OF SUBSTANTIATED CHILD ABUSE OR NEGLECT FOUND THROUGH A BACKGROUND CHECK OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT RECORDS MAINTAINED BY THE CABINET FOR HEALTH AND FAMILY SERVICES AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.

 

The Assistant Academic Team Coach Requirements:  CPR/First Aid Certification and other state-required safety certifications.  Requires interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy in addition to the following:

 

 

 

  1. Have a thorough knowledge and abide by the rules in the SBDM Council Policy, Morgan County Board Policy, and the Morgan County Schools Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline. 

  2. Conduct a parent meeting within the first week of practice to discuss team rules, practice and event schedules, fundraising, etc.

  3. Follow the chain of command (Coach=>Principal=>Superintendent).

  4. Be solely responsible for the care of the facility.  Notify the Facilities Director and Principal of any maintenance issues that need to be addressed as soon as possible.

  5. Be responsible for turning off the lights and locking all doors/gates after team-related events.

  6. Teach and model sportsmanship skills to participants.

  7. Be responsible for self-conduct, coaching staff and participants in practice, on trips, and during competition.  (Cursing, using obscene gestures, addressing the fans or other players in an unsportsmanlike way, or any other action that is unbecoming of a participant or employee of the Morgan County School District will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.)

  8. Create and maintain a regularly scheduled practice.  (Start and stop at designated times.)

  9. Teach and practice activity rules.

  10. Inventory all equipment and uniforms (if applicable) at the beginning and end of the season.  A copy of these inventories must be submitted to the building principal.  The Head Coach is responsible for ensuring that all uniforms (if applicable) and equipment are returned and locked in storage per a Principal-determined location within two weeks of the end of their season.

  11. Be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date medical kit.   Ensure that all necessary and required paperwork is taken to every away activity and readily at home.

  12. Promote professional ethics while representing the Morgan County School District as a coach or teacher.  Code of ethics developed by the Morgan County Board of Education applies.

  13. Be responsible for contacting participants and assistant coaches if events are canceled or postponed.  Our school campus must be deemed safe in inclement weather before any practices or events are scheduled.  Contact the facilities director before conducting any practices on snow days to determine whether sidewalks and parking lots have been cleaned and salted.

  14. Work cooperatively with coaches and administrators.

  15. Attend all meetings the Principal or Superintendent called in relation to the duty.

  16. Develop a positive player/coach relationship.

  17. Be certified in CPR /First Aide and other state-required safety courses.

  18. Be aware of the participant’s medical conditions in relation to activity.

  19. Strive to secure scholarships for participants.

  20. Follow approved sign-out procedures for participants during away events.

  21. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Principal and or Superintendent.
